Decision BC-10/3 on the Indonesian-Swiss country-led initiative mandated a technical expert group to elaborate a framework for the environmentally sound management (ESM) of hazardous wastes and other wastes, taking into account criteria and core performance elements under the work of the Basel Convention and other relevant organisations.
In line with this mandate, a report on environmentally sound management criteria and core performance elements under the Basel Convention and other relevant organisations , intended as a reference list for the technical expert group, was developed prior to its first meeting. The document comprises:

A compilation of environmentally sound management criteria and core performance elements under the work of the Basel Convention and other relevant organisations;

A compilation of selected existing standards, guidelines, policies and codes of practices for the environmentally sound management of hazardous and other wastes.
