It aims to protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects resulting from the generation, management, transboundary movements and disposal of hazardous and other wastes.

20th anniversary

The event

A celebratory event to mark the 20th Anniversary of the adoption of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal took place on 17 November 2009 in Basel, Switzerland, the city that gave its name to the Convention on the occasion of its adoption in 1989. This high-level event was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Basel Convention and the Canton of Basel-City with the generous support of the Swiss Government. It took place at the Rathaus, Basel (Marktplatz 9,CH-4001).
